The School of Performing and Visual Arts is functional at the University Head quarters since February 2000 with a vision to provide higher educational opportunities in Performing and Visual arts through open and distance learning mode of education. Within the above context, the School of Performing and Visual Arts is visualized as a location that intents to implement a new vision of art pedagogy and practices in the Country. It aims at being constituted by the principle of creative expression, processes, practices and disciplines, including historical, theoretical and critical engagements. The idea is to focus on areas of knowledge and professional specializations and is imagined a breeding ground for the development of classical and newer art practices and theoretical insights in the direction of finding paradigms in performing and visual art forms with greater amalgamation between theory, practice and research on one hand, and interdisciplinary approach between various arts on the other.
To promote all forms of arts at higher education to unfold the aesthetic and creative potentialities of learner enabling them to become a contributing professional.
To promote aesthetics as a learning process in professional and academic arena.
To inculcate creativity through diverse range of creative activities and modes of expression.
To engage in praxis and theory through latest and modern pedagogical tools that reach out to the distant learner in the Open and Distance Learning system.
To nurture traditional and contemporary art practices in areas of the Visual and Performing Arts and provide grounds for critical research.

Dr. Radhika Puthenedam is an experienced researcher with proven abilities in areas of Bharatanatyam technique and choreography, Pedagogy in Dance in distance and Online and K-12 education, Critical Dance studies, Post colonial History of Bharatanatyam, and Dance in the Diaspora and Dance and Gender.
Dr.Radhika has made significant contributions to research journals with many publications and chapters in books. She is on the editorial board of prominent Dance & Music journals in the country and contributes as a reviewer in both national and international journals in the fields of Performing arts and in Distance education. She also contributes as an expert member of various committees and boards of important statutory and educational bodies in the country concerned with Dance and education. Shealso has been involved as a resource person at national Seminars and workshops concerned with Dance studies and Arts education. She regularly gives lectures on Gyanvani (FM105.6) and Gyandarshan Channel. Since 2009, when she joined IGNOU, she has looked after the programmes and courses in Dance that include Ph.D. Dance, Certificate programme in Bharatanatyam (ODL programme) and two upcoming programmes – Diploma and Bachelors in Dance. She is also presently developing a skill development course and a generic elective course for the FYUP bachelor's programme.
Dr.Radhika completed her basic training in Dance from Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, Chennai, a reputed institution in the field of Bharatanatyam and further earned her master’s degree and PhD in Dance from University of Hyderabad and later qualified NET and JRF-SRF of the University Grants Commission, 2004. She is also a post graduate in English and a PGD holder in Television production, and Distance education. She is a certified Yoga practitioner from Vemana Institute, Telangana. Dr.Radhika's doctoral work dealt with the transitional phase of Bharatanatyam in India focussing on the works of Rukmini Devi and Chandralekha.
