The Research Methodology(RTT-101) course is related to the course work of Ph.D. in Translation Studies (PHDTT) programme.

Research methodology is a systematic approach to examining and understanding the processes, challenges, and outcomes of carrying out research in any discipline. This field analyses, evaluates, and explores various methods and tools required to undertake evidence based, objective, deep and quality research. Qualitative methods such as interviews, case studies, and ethnographic research are commonly used to gain in-depth insights into experiences, decision-making processes, and contextual factors. Quantitative methods, including surveys, experiments, and statistical analysis, are utilized to measure and compare data, test the effectiveness of techniques deployed, and identify patterns and trends.

Additionally, hybrid approaches combine both qualitative and quantitative techniques to provide a comprehensive understanding of the data and literature being studied. Moreover, identification of research problem, formation of hypothesis, strategies to conduct literature review, data collection, data analysis techniques, knowledge generation, style sheet are some of the topics that are covered during the course of this paper.

Translation: Theory and Practice(RTT-102) course is related to course work of Ph.D. in Translation Studies (PHDTT) programme.

The history of the translation-practice is not known but it emerged as a discipline in the second half of the last century as ‘Translation Studies’. Earlier translation thinking is limited to word-for-word translation, sense-for-sense translation, fidelity of translator etc. But with the advent of time, different theories have developed in this discipline. This course deals with making the researchers aware of major translation works in both Indian and western spheres. This course introduces new developments in contemporary theories and practices of translation. The course is aimed at honing the researcher’s knowledge pertaining to translation and relating it to contemporary translation practices in various fields. After studying this course, the researchers will be able to study the implications of translation approaches as a new discipline in the technologically driven 21st century.

Critiquing Translation (RTT-103) is one of the courses in Ph.D Translation Studies Programme’s course work which is required to be completed by the students for pursuing their research work. Critiquing Translation is an assessment process of identifying and evaluating the quality of the translated text on various parameters including textual, contextual, lexicographical, socio-cultural perspectives. In the process of evaluating the quality of translated text case studies are placed for making the task easier and more specific. The students get acquainted with the concept of critique, critiquing translation and assessment process for deciding quality of translation. This course work also deals with case studies of translation of Gitānjalī, The Second Sex. Abhijnāna Śākuntalam and Rāga Darbārī.

Translation and Power(RTT-104) is one of the courses of Ph.D. course work in Translation Studies programme(PHDTT).

As we know that translation is not merely a simple and isolated process but is intricately bound to ideology, patronage, and politics. This course mainly deals with the concepts of ideology, cultural and political hegemony, role of state and language in the context of selection and translation of a text. After studying this course, the students would be able not only to understand all these concepts but it would also help them to understand that translation is not merely a linguistic exercise but there is a deep thought process behind the very process of translation.
