The B.A. (Education) – BAFEDU Programme has been designed and developed by the School of Education, IGNOU. B.A. (Education) is a liberal undergraduate programme of Education as a general and knowledge-base discipline. The BAFEDU Programme has been developed initially for three years (up to 6 Semesters/3rd Year). There are exit points after first, second and third year. Those who exit after completing three years (120 credits) shall be awarded a Degree with Major in Education. The credit load of courses per Semester under different categories is 20 credits. The Bachelor of Arts (Education) under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) of IGNOU is designed in accordance with the requirements of the ODL mode to provide learners with theoretical knowledge in Discipline Specific Core Courses (DSC-Major), Discipline Specific Courses (DSC-Minor), Vocational Courses (VOC), Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Interdisciplinary Courses (IDC), and Value Added Courses (VAC) through Self-Learning Materials and also expose them to practical experiences through course based activities and assignments. The students of B.A. (Education) required to select ‘DSC-Minor’ courses in 3rd, 4th and 5th Semesters from select Disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The students who would like to take exist from the programme after completion of first or second year, will have to complete a Vocational Course worth 4 credits in addition to the required number of courses to be completed in these years (40+4 credits after first year and 80+4 credits after 2nd year). If a learner wants to leave after the completion of the first or second year, the learner will be given a UG Certificate or UG Diploma respectively, provided they secure the prescribed number of credits.
