IGNOU celebrates 72nd Independence Day
16 August, 2018The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated the 72nd Independence Day in its campus in Maidan Garhi, Delhi. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nageshwar Rao hoisted the national flag and also inspected guard of honour by IGNOU guards.
Prof. Nageshwar Rao in his address wished the IGNOU students and everyone at IGNOU Headquarter and Regional Centers on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day. He urged the IGNOU employees to work together and contribute to the betterment of the country and the university. He said that each employee of IGNOU has immense potential and should give his/her 100%.
While talking about the various programmes run by IGNOU, Prof. Nageshwar Rao said that the university has 21 schools of studies and run as many as 150 programmes but we need to work towards more programmes which are relevant today; those could be from agriculture, law or new vocational programmes. He said that we have 3 million students and that itself is a testimony to the fact that IGNOU has been providing quality education. And it becomes even more important that we continue to strive for better ways to serve our prospective learners; be it through new programmes or revising and improving the existing ones, he emphasized.
We should not forget that IGNOU has been pioneer of open education and many Asian and African countries have learnt from us and replicated our system, he said. But we need to constantly reinvent and innovate to stay ahead and relevant, he cautioned.
He said that in these changing and difficult times our focus should be our learner and from that we would be able to get new ideas for better service to them. He also recommended use of technology to reach and engage the learners. He reminded everyone that it was IGNOU which long back harnessed the technology to reach the unreached through Gyan Vani, and Gyan Darshan Channel of the university.
The IGNOU guards were given awards at the end of the ceremony for their exemplary work in keeping the IGNOU campus safe. Football and Volleyball matches were also organized for IGNOU staff members and their children on the occasion.
