The School of Vocational Education and Training established in August 2007 aims at providing education and training for skills development and to meet the vocational as well as technical requirements for economic development of the country. Demand driven and value added courses/programmes offered through the School, targeting the formal and informal sectors. The School develop courses that encourage vertical mobility of Vocational Education and Training (VET). Research is another priority area for identifying societal and industrial needs.

Objectives
The objectives of the school are to:

• Design and develop Programs to educate and train skill of post-secondary schools students catering to the skill requirement for economic development in the country
• Identify and promote centres of learning for practical exposure and experience of the students.
• Adapting courses to local needs and conditions to improve mobility and employability of students.
• Build global networking for skills and development through creation of linkages between education and training with employment.
• Adopt innovative blended learning approach for value added growth of VET.

Vision
The SOVET is committed to provide a vocational training, learning, research and development opportunities to those who couldn’t get opportunity due to one reason or another so that they can enhance their existing skills and to achieve their personal, economic and social development.

Mission
The mission of the SOVET is to provide quality vocational education and training in accordance to the needs of the job market, to contribute employable skills among youth and adults, and to improve the growth of Indian economy. The School would achieve its mission through blended learning approaches on the philosophy of open and distance learning. School will provide vertical and horizontal mobility opportunities for students which lead to development and opportunities in the world of work.

SOVET’s Initiatives
School will create a platform on e-vocational network which will work towards enhancement, modernization and interaction between IGNOU, vocational institutions and industry for designing and delivery of vocational programmes.
